The Physical Challenge
The school community, children, parents, and teachers, ‘move and groove’ 40000km around the world in 7 weeks. You are encouraged to move and groove by running, walking, swimming, or cycling every week. To achieve this year’s goal, every child in the school needs to aim for 5km / week of exercise external to their ordinary play time. Parents and teachers should aim to cover 10km per week of exercise.
Last year, The 2008 Program was achieved by the children covering over 25000km in 8weeks. This years goal is for them to complete 18000km in 6 weeks. Parents and Teachers need to cover the rest so that CHSS can make it around the world. (Ways to calculate your km’s)

Record Your Data
Every Friday, you and your child/children must send your weekly kilometre tally to the school.
There are 2 methods to do this:

  1. Log onto the Chapel Hill Website.
Use the 'Move & Groove' icon to go to the new website. Press "Enter KM's" to send your data by email.

  2. Send your information in with the children to their classroom to be recorded on the class kilometre counter.

Using the Move and Groove website is the preferred option, and easiest for most people.
Parents and teachers data must be recorded separately from the children as there are a couple of competitions between classes throughout the program.

Kilometre Counter for Home
The week prior to commencement of  2009’s ‘Move & Groove:  Around the World’  program, every child will receive a kilometre counter log for them to record their data at home.  This stays at home until the end of the program.  You just need to send in the weekly kilometre amounts every FRIDAY.
A PDF version will be available if you lose yours.

Move & Groove Day: Every Monday starting March 23rd
Every Monday, during the program, will be “Move & Groove Day”. This will be a free dress day where the children will be encouraged to wear the Move and Groove T-shirt or some sporting related clothing and footwear. The Move & Groove t-shirts will be available for purchase for $10 from the office.
A limited number of extra shirts will be printed, so put in your order now to avoid any disappointment.

Healthy Queensland Awards
This year the Queensland State Government is offering prizes to schools who show the most initiative in creating a healthy community. If the CHSS entry (largely based on our Move and Groove program) is successful, we hope to receive funding for a fitness track at the school to be made available to students and local residents. How Groovy is that? See Queensland Healthy Awards

2008 Run Around Australia

Last year the children of CHSS planned to run, walk, swim or cycle 16,000km around Australia in 8 weeks. They were so enthusiastic that they completed 16,390km by week 5. Due to their enthusiasm, the children then continued on to the Beijing Olympics, another 9155km. They covered a total of 25, 545km over 8 weeks and raised $6100 dollars. Due to the success of the program, CHSS was able to donate $1475 to the McIntyre Centre, horse riding for the disabled, at Pullenvale.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could beat this fundraising tally?
